Apple reveals new faster iPhone 3G with GPS

Apple’s long awaited announcement of the new iPhone 3G

is both exciting and disappointing. Reports from Associated Press, Forbes and SeekingAlpha provide good coverage of the new iPhone features. However, there are some questions to answer and No in-home activation for iPhone 3G will be a big hassle for many people. The Street reports The iPhone Doesn’t Ring With Business explaining businesses “need the ability to manage those devices easily from a single centralized console …… the lack of which could become a deal-killer for the iPhone among enterprises”

Lowering the price for the eight-gigabyte model to $199 sounds great, but add $30 for data and $39.99 for voice makes a minimum monthly charge of $70 not including taxes. You end up paying less for the phone, but more in monthly fees. Before you go out and buy an iPhone remember Nokia are releasing the Nokia N96 in August with 16 GB and all the features you can imagine.

3G and GPS

The iPhone 3G includes faster 3G wireless networks making downloads faster and GPS - global positioning system.

Pricing

The iPhone 3G will start at $199 for the eight-gigabyte model and $299 for the 16-GB model.

However the new price requires users to sign up for a two-year plan with AT&T. Before you pocket your $200, AT&T announced that it was raising the price of its basic unlimited data plan for iPhone 3G users from $20 to $30. (In addition to AT&T’s calling plans, which start at $39.99 a month). At $10 a month for 24 months means paying an extra $240! Total price $199 + $240 = $439.

Software

  • MobileME for personal users- Access and manage your email, contacts, calendar, photos, and files at me.com.
